Spotify Acquires Wordle-Inspired Music Trivia Game Heardle

Spotify is set to acquire viral interactive music trivia game Heardle, offering it as a music discovery tool for millions of listeners.

Viral music game Heardle is coming to Spotify. The merger comes the interactive music trivia game rolled out in February of this year, designed after word-oriented game Wordle. Through a partnership Spotify, Heardle will offer fans an opportunity for further music discovery.

Spotify assures that the game's design and will not change, being offered to markets in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. After each game is completed, game-players can listen to the full song on Spotify. Prior to the acquisition, players were welcomed to donate using creator-tipping platform ko-fi. Since Heardle was created, spin-offs have been made, including '90s-oriented hip-hop and R&B game Ya Heardle!

“For existing Heardle players, the look and feel of the game will stay the same, and it’ll remain free to play for everyone,” Spotify wrote in a press release. “And effective today, players can listen to the full song on Spotify at the end of the game.”

“We are always looking for innovative and playful ways to enhance music discovery and help artists reach new fans,” commented Jeremy Erlich, Global Head of Music, Spotify in a press statement. “Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs . . . and a way to compete with their friends as to who has the best musical knowledge. Since its debut, the game has quickly built a loyal following, and it aligns with our plans to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem.”
