'Songs That Shook America' Takes on Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" in Trailer for New Episode

"Hip-hop is not the problem. Our reality is the problem."

Following its critically-acclaimed debut, Songs That Shook America returns this evening with a spotlight on Kendrick Lamar's 2015 single, "Alright."

A trailer for the episode arrived late last night, featuring appearances from John Legend and Fab 5 Freddy, as well as narration from Questlove, who serves as an executive producer on the AMC series along with Black Thought. Flashing scenes from Black Live Matter marches around the country, Questlove draws a direct line between the rapper's To Pimp a Butterfly standout and the revered protest anthems of Nina Simone and Billy Holiday.

The clip closes with a quote from Lamar's 2015 TMZ interview, addressing Geraldo Rivera's claim of "Alright" inciting violence against police: "Hip-hop is not the problem. Our reality is the problem."
