Rap's elder statesman steps in

The Super Bowl is quickly becoming one of music's most divisive stages. As the NFL's favor continues to plummet in the wake of Colin Kaepernick's peaceful protesting, stars are beginning to think twice about performing at the big show.

Yesterday, Travis Scott was announced to be a guest for Maroon 5's halftime show performance. But if JAY-Z has anything to do with it, the Houston rapper's Super Bowl bid will be withdrawn. According to a report from Variety, the heart of Marcy, who's been openly critical of the NFL's blacklisting of the ex-49ers quarterback, was spotted at a recent Astroworld stop in Los Angeles with Beyoncé and has allegedly been in the rapper's ear, attempting to convince him out of making an appearance between the 40-yard markers. Whether or not he chooses to run with it, Scott isn't the only star being eyed for a Super Bowl set. Rumors of talks with Cardi B and OutKast's Big Boi are also circulating, but neither has confirmed their involvement.

Super Bowl LIII (53) will land in Atlanta on February 3, 2019. Meanwhile, Nike's seeing a massive hike in quarterly sales following the launch of a recent ad campaign starring Kaepernick. Just another L for the flailing football league.
