Madlib and KAYTRANADA Announce Vinyl-Exclusive Collaboration

The producers are teaming with Vinyl Me, Please to press their first-ever link-up to wax.

This spring, Madlib and KAYTRANADA will release a vinyl-exclusive collaboration.

According to Pitchfork, the producers are joining forces with Vinyl Me, Please to drop their debut link-up. The untitled single will be pressed as a limited-run 7" single exclusively available to select VMP subscribers in their April shipments.

The song is an accompanying score to the producers' appearance in Driven by Sound, a new documentary short produced by Pitchfork that showcases a custom build of Lexus' new IS Wax Edition, a version of the car with, you guessed it, a built-in turntable. In the first installment of the two-part video series, Madlib and Kaytranada discuss their love of vinyl and sampling, while also touring the new car model. At one point, Madlib (on his iPad,) and KAYTRA (on his phone,) begin sketching out drums together. The second and final part of Driven by Sound is slated to drop on March 15th.

While VMP subscribers will have to wait a few months to get their hands and ears on the collab, there's plenty of new music from each producer in the ether. Last month, Madlib released Sound Ancestors, a joint project with Four Tet disguised as a solo release. And just last week, KAYTRANADA released a loose instrumental on TikTok (his first track of the year) to help the platform launch a Black History Month initiative.

Head over to Pitchfork to watch Madlib and KAYTRANADA chop it up and hit the record store in the first part of Driven by Sound. Hold tight to see if their collaborative track(s) break free of vinyl-exclusivity in the months ahead.
