Lizzo Took the 2023 Grammys to Church

During the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, Lizzo performed a gospel rendition of "About Damn Time" and "Special."

Lizzo tore the house down during her performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. On Sunday night (February 5), the three-time Grammy-winner brought the Arena to their feet, performing singles "About Damn Time" and "Special." The segment marks Lizzo's second time performing at the Grammy Awards, opening the 2020 ceremony with a rendition of  her hit single "Truth Hurts."

The Detroit-born artist scored five Grammy nominations this year, including  Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Special, in addition to Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “About Damn Time.” She previously took home three gramophone trophies in 2020 for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Cuz I Love You (Deluxe), Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts” and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome."

To celebrate her fourth studio album, Special, Lizzo embarked on The Special Tour last year with support from Latto and Saucy Santana. In the same year, the artist won Outstanding Competition Program at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards for her Prime Video reality series Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. Last week, she unveiled her new video for "Special," where she transformed into the role of a superhero, also unveiling her first Madame Tussaud's wax figure in Las Vegas.

During the ceremony, she tweeted that the experience was "single-handedly one of the most terrifyingly meta moments of my life."
