The track appears on a new installment of the producer’s HexualSealings beat tape series.
Capitalizing on the streamer’s feeless first Friday initiative, the producer unleashed a trio of new tapes, adding two installments to his ongoing VGM series and another volume to the longrunning HexualSealings campaign. On the VGM tapes, Knx mines video game soundtracks, both obscure and revered, for sample sources, twisting his excavations into sprawling synth-soaked suites. But the latest chapter in the producer’s evergreen HX series is its own beast entirely.
Spanning a range of eras and disciplines, the tape is a collection of full-melt flips of r&b classics and sleepers from Gyrl, Sista (featuring a still virtually unknown Missy Elliott,) Kehlani, Brandy, and more. Of particular potency, however, is the producer’s slow-burning edit of Mariah Carey’s 1995 anthem, “Always Be My Baby,” where the dial falls back to a gorgeous, kush-clouded crawl.
Knx’s latest batch of projects brings him to nine on the season and keeps him at an unholy pace of output. He’s also released the first two volumes of his Meek Mill remix tapes on vinyl. Limited edition test pressings with one-of-one screen-printed covers have already sold out, but you can grab a standard-issue copy on Stones Throw’s site today. You can also hear him on a pair of tracks from Steve Arrington‘s upcoming album, Down To The Lowest Terms: The Soul Sessions, which is slated to land on September 18th via Stones Throw.
Hear Knxwledge’s hazy flip of Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby” below. Head over to his Bandcamp page to hear all three of his new tapes (along with a massive back catalog,) and stay tuned for his next dispatch. Shouldn’t be too long now.
