Lil Uzi Vert should want no smoke
Members of the Heaven’s Gate cult are upset with rapper Lil Uzi Vert. And they are thinking of taking legal action.
On Tuesday, Lil Uzi Vert uploaded artwork teasing a new project, called Eternal Atake. The artwork is pretty identical to the logo of the San Diego-based cult. Uzi also uploaded an animated version of himself where he is wearing a shirt with the Heaven’s Gate cult colors.
Now, there aren’t a lot of active Heaven’s Gate cult members. In fact, there’s only two. (It doesn’t seem like they updated their site in some time.) Genius reached out to the members, and they sent back a statement saying:
He is using and adapting our copyrights and trademarks without our permission and the infringement will be taken up with our attorneys. This is not fair use or parody, it it a direct and clear infringement.
If you’re not familiar, Heaven’s Gate was the center of conversation of 1997, when 39 members of the cult died by suicide. The members did it to get on a spacecraft.
Look at the Uzi vert imagery below. What you think?
