The release comes two years after her last project Indigo.

Kandace Springs returns to unveil her latest jazz album The Women Who Raised Me.

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, over the years Springs has become known for her organic sound that was cultivated in her home state. She also began playing the piano at a young age. In the beginning years of her career, she took gigs in Nashville and would go on to live in New York and Los Angeles, but would eventually end up returning to Nashville.

The late artist Prince once shared that Springs had a “voice that could melt snow.” Upon listening to a few tracks ahead of the release, it’s safe to say her voice is equal parts lush as it is soulful. Before the drop, the songstress dropped by our Brooklyn office and opened up about the album which arrives two years after her last release, Indigo.

During her visit, she expressed that the project was a culmination of each of the legendary women she looks up to in the music industry. A few of the greats she name-dropped were Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Lauryn Hill and Sade. Her way of paying homage was to re-create a few of these women’s biggest songs, but with her own flavor. Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock) spearheaded the recording sessions.

She also expressed how proud she was of the features from Norah Jones and Elena Pinderhughes. Additional features include saxophonists Chris Potter and David Sandborn, acclaimed musician Avishai Cohen, and world renowned bassist Christian McBride.

Kandace on what she hopes fans get from the album, “My dream is that people will listen to my album, and then want to go learn more about these great singers,” She also shared, “If that happens then I’ve done my job.”

In total, the project spotlights Springs’ tremendous dedication to her craft. Her cadence, songwriting and grace aren’t to be ignored any longer. The sheer elegance captured in The Women Who Raised Me is undeniable as each track folds into the next.
