Hiatus Kaiyote Announces New Album 'Mood Valiant' With New Song "Get Sun"

Hiatus Kaiyote recently announced that they had signed to Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label.

Hiatus Kaiyote has announced a new album. Titled Mood Valiant, the album is expected to drop on June 25 via Brainfeeder/Ninja Tune. Along with the album's announcement, the group has shared the lead single from the project, which is called "Get Sun."

As Pitchfork noted, this will be the first new music from Hiatus Kaiyote since bandleader Nai Palm was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018.

"When you think your life is going to be taken away from you, it makes you think about who you are," Nai Palm said in a press release. "I guess after the breast cancer scare I decided that I needed to prove to life that the offering I have is genuine. My only wish is to live and offer my experience of time and beauty."

The news of a new Hiatus Kaiyote album comes after the group announced it had signed to Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label. They announced the news Monday morning via its social media accounts.

"We are super pumped to announce that we will be joining the @BRAINFEEDERfamily," a post from the band read. "They have always been at the forefront of the dopest releases and their artist roster is home to some of the homies that have been with us from day one."

The jazz-funk band has released two albums: their debut Tawk Tomahawk (2012) and its follow-up, Choose Your Weapon (2017). In a 2018 interview with Triple J, Nai Palm had offered an update on their next album, saying at the time: "The stuff we’ve come up with is so gorgeous, definitely an evolution. Hopefully going to have it done by the end of the year. We're just allowing ourselves the luxury of sinking into it, as far as studio time, putting in the groundwork to make it as beautiful as we want."
