Flying Lotus Just Dropped Two Brand-New Tracks

The two new Flying Lotus tracks serve as the opening theme and closing credits for Netflix's new anime series Yasuke.

On Tuesday, Flying Lotus dropped two brand-new singles: "Black Gold" featuring Thunderct and "Between Memories," featuring Niiki Randa. The two tracks will serve as opening theme and closing credits music for Netflix's new anime Yasuke. The show, created, produced, and directed by LeSean Thomas, tells the story of a samurai warrior of African descent in an alternate universe's version of feudal Japan. Lakeith Stanfield voices the titular character through a world "full of magic, mechs, and of course, swordplay."

Flying Lotus consulted on the story with MAPPA Studios as an executive producer. He plans to use this role to influence more Black youth to create their own anime. Yasuke is set to debut on Netflix on April 29th. According to the show's entry on IMDb, Netflix has signed on for six episodes.

"[LeSean] and I talked about being outsiders in anime," Flying Lotus said in a press release. "I was like, 'Why aren't more Black kids trying to do this? Why is it so out of the ordinary?' He was saying that it's because they don't have examples.”

LeSean Thomas previously worked on The BoondocksCannon Busters, and Children of Ether. The announcement comes after FlyLo and Thundercat won a Grammy award for It Is What it Is. He also earned a nomination for Non-Classical Producer of the Year.

Stay tuned for further updates on Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Yasuke.
