Childish Gambino Sneakily Reveals New Music in 'Swarm' Trailers

Childish Gambino has revealed new music in a teaser from his new Prime Video series Swarm co-created with Atlanta writer and producer Janine Nabers.

Childish Gambino hive stand up.

The rapper/producer/creative multi-hyphenate has revealed a snippet of an unreleased song “Sticky.” The track is straight from Donald Glover’s forthcoming Prime Video series, Swarm. A short description in a trailer reads: “Original music from the new series “Swarm” by Ni’Jah with Kirby featuring Childish Gambino.”

The snippet is syrupy and a bit off-the-wall, it pairs perfectly with the premise behind the show.

If you’re not keeping tabs, the series premiered a few days ago at SXSW. Cocreated by Donald Glover and Atlanta writer and producer Janine Nabers, Swarm centers around a woman named Dre (Domonique Fishback) who is obsessed with a fictional pop star. The highly anticipated show also stars Chloe Bailey and Damson Idris.

Per Vanity Fair, Glover shared that he was inspired by Isabelle Huppert’s performance in The Piano Teacher. “We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King of Comedy.” He added, “Me and my brother Stephen were talking about finding someone like Isabelle Huppert, as far as risk-takers in performances. A lot of people did it out of the kindness of their hearts and they did a really great job.”

Nabers, the showrunner expressed that the show’s crew is mainly comprised of people who worked on Glover’s FX series Atlanta. “We were really interested in creating an antihero story,” she said. They pulled from Mad Men’s Don Draper and The Sopranos Tony Soprano to piece together Fishback’s significant, leading role.

“Dom, Damson, Chloe. I was really blown away at how hard they worked on the tone, ’cause it’s a strange one,” said Glover.

Glover hasn’t dropped any solo work since 2020’s 3.15.20.
