The first episode of Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine is out on Sunday, February 21st.

An upcoming documentary series from Showtime and director Karam Gill will track the rise and almost immediate fall of Tekashi 6ix9ine.

In a trailer for the aptly titled Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine series, the Bushwick rapper’s peers and enablers recount his pre-fame life, his controversial ascent, and how it seemed he’d always intended to opt for infamy. The three-part series is produced by Rolling Stone, Lightbox, and Imagine Documentaries, with narration from actor Giancarlo Esposito. It features a number of interviews, including one with 6ix9ine himself conducted after his early release from prison in April 2020. “This series is bigger than 6ix9ine. It’s a cautionary tale about manufactured celebrity and how when our society allows Supervillains to rise, the collateral damage can be massive. In the era of Trump and the Jan. 6 insurrection, understanding and analyzing these stories is extremely important,” writes Gill in a statement.

The series was created as a follow-up to Rolling Stone piece published just before he was sentenced to two years in prison for pleading guilty to nine charges, including armed robbery, racketeering, and conspiracy to commit murder. The rapper’s legal team cited his asthma condition in a plea for early release due to potential complications with COVID-19. 6ix9ine has been on house arrest ever since.

The first episode of Supervillain is slated to premiere on Showtime on Sunday, February 21st at 10pm EST. A new episode will run every following Sunday until March 7th. However, all three episodes of the series will be available to stream on Showtime and video-on-demand as of February 21st.
