According to Pitchfork, the rapper pulled up to The Cosmopolitan Casino for a Mustard performance, but was denied by the venue's security guards, who threatened to arrest Meek for trespassing upon entry. In a video posted to Instagram following the incident (see below,) Meek blasted the casino for "extremely racist" conduct. He can be heard asking the reluctant welcoming committee, "How can you tell me I’m going to be locked up for trespassing?"
He's told by one of the guards, "So here’s the deal, right. We’re a private property. At this time, with the information we have, we’re refusing to do business with you. We have the right to do that." Meek pries, asking for the information while members of his crew press security guards for a clarification. Meek adds, "You’re not refusing to do business with me; you’re telling me I’ll be arrested if I don’t leave."
In a letter to Anthony Pearl, the casino's general counsel and chief compliance officer, Meek's attorney stated that he'd learned "The Cosmopolitan maintains a list of African American recording artists who should be denied access for no other reason than their culture and skin color." He adds that "Such course of conduct constitutes discrimination per se, in violation of state and federal law, and exposes you to significant monetary damages."
