Over the years, we've seen countless producers step into the Rhythm Roulette ring with obscure dollar bin items tucked under their arms. They make do, for better or worse. But when Tuxedo duo, Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One, come through, they do so with only the finest. After a blindfolded run at NYC's Good Records (not the label,) the duo emerge with a handful gems; a beloved 12-inch Log single, MFSB's Love Is The Message and the surprisingly fruitful, Blue Thunder soundtrack.
Whereas chops and edits would be the pillars of most RR sessions, Tuxedo pick what they need from each sleeve (mostly drums) and embellish with touches of their own keys, guitars and vocals. Hell, there's even a live clap track. The final product should be fit for its own suit.
Watch Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One cut with precision on Rhythm Roulette. Pick up a copy of Tuxedo II on iTunes today or head over to Stones Throw to grab the album on vinyl. They're on the road this spring and summer, the dates for which are listed below. Look out for our feature interview with the group next week.
