Kevin Hart had to grin and take it during Sunday night’s Netflix The Roast of Kevin Hart. The closer for this year’s Netflix is a Joke festival was hosted by comedian Shane Gillis and featured comedians like Katt Williams, Pete Davidson, Chelsea Handler, Jeff Ross, Usher, Big Jay Oakerson, Regina Hall, NFL great Tom Brady, Lizzo and The Rock.
Williams’ appearance was especially surprising, considering his and Hart’s long-running bad blood. But the comedy star used the occasion to put to rest any feuding between him and Hart.
“I’m surprised they invited,” Katt joked. “ That’s how little star power you have, they had to start inviting your enemies.” Williams got in a reference to imprisoned former mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. “Just because Kevin went to Diddy parties does not mean he did something wrong. The fact he gets all quiet when you bring it up, that means he did something wrong!”
Hart, for his part, admitted to Williams that he’s always been a fan of his work and asked that they finally end the beef.
“I am offering you an olive branch of peace,” Hart said to Williams onstage. “I want to be a brother, I want to be a friend. Katt, I want to move on. Can we move on, man?” Williams responded by shaking Hart’s hand and embracing him.
With big names on hand like Tiffany Haddish, Jay Pharoah, Jennifer Lopez, Hasan Minaj, Bert Kreisher and John Stamos, the audience was just as star-studded as the stage.
Regarding his mea culpa with Williams, Hart couldn’t resist more humor.
“Everybody has said tonight that I can’t act,” Hart joked. “What I want you to do is go back and look at that moment where I shook Katt’s hand and I looked him in the eye, and I said, ‘I just want us to be friends.’ Some of the best f–king acting that I’ve ever did in my career.
“I did not mean one word of what I said,” he added. “F–k Katt Williams! F–k Katt Williams!”
