Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf said in a statement Friday that he supports the release of Meek Mill, who is currently serving time behind bars for a probation violation.
"Our criminal justice system is in need of repair," Wolf tweeted. "That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in programs that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety, and promote fairness."

Wolf's statement was in response to a post in Philadelphia Inquirer on Philly DA Larry Krasner saying he was "unopposed" to Meek Mill's release from prison on bail.
“I support D.A. Larry Krasner’s position in the case of Robert Williams (Meek Mill). Our criminal justice system is in need of repair. That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in programs that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety, and promote fairness. https://t.co/f8s3JjGOuP”
Wolf added, "But more needs to be done. I am calling on the PA General Assembly to pass the Justice Reinvestment II reforms to the criminal justice system, which help address issues from arrest, trial, sentencing, incarceration, to post-release."
Wolf and Krasner's backing is putting pressure on Judge Genece Brinkley, who has been overseeing Meek Mill's probation since 2007. This week, the rapper's attorneys asked the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to release him on bail, and filed a second petition to remove Brinkley from his case. Mill's attorneys claim Brinkley has taken an “unusual interest” in his case.
