Perhaps some of the Okay-realm is familiar with the immeasurable dopeness that was/is the calypso-tinged UK funk ensemble Cymande. Perhaps some of you are even aware that the troop has been on a hard-set hiatus since roughly 1981. But it appears come this November, a sampledelic sound that's been diced, spliced and sliced by the likes Wu-Tang ("Problems,") De La Soul("Change In Speak") MF DOOM ("Cedar") and the gamut of Golden Era greats, will make a mighty and welcomed return to the game. Story has it, after nearly 40 years of dormancy, a string of recent live appearances cross-pond and four years in the studio, Cymande and its core group of musicians have finally come up for air, bearing the fruits of seasoned funksmanship and the marks of a well-rested squad. Their fifth studio album A Simple Act Of Faith is due November 27th, just in time for your Turkey Day wind-down, with vinyl being pressed and sold along with a CD release. If you need some time to get acquainted, or even just to refresh, peep the strut-worthy standout "The Message" from their self-titled '71 debut below and hold tight for that low-down funky sound.
