Erica Garner Declared Brain Dead With No Chance Of Recovery

Garner's family members have reportedly said their goodbyes.

Doctors have declared Erica Garner as brain dead with no chance of recovery five days after the mother of two suffered a heart attack the Daily News reported. Garner's family members were reportedly being called early Thursday to Woodhull Hospital to say their goodbyes.

Erica Garner was fighting for her life following a medically induced coma following a heart attack. One of Garner’s workers who shared the news of Garner’s heart attack on Sunday updated her Twitter account Wednesday evening, announcing that Garner has suffered major brain damage from a lack of oxygen while in cardiac arrest.

The 27-year-old Garner has been an outspoken activist against police brutality and reform advocate since the 2014 passing of her father Eric Garner, the chokehold victim killed by NYPD. His final words captured on camera, "I can't breathe," became a rallying cry for black liberation activists and protesters.
