Eddie Murphy is Readying His First Stand-Up Tour in 30 Years

The comedy legend is hitting the road in 2020.

Eddie Murphy's resurgence just added another leg.

On a recent episode of Netflix's Present Company podcast, the comedian discussed meeting Rudy Ray Moore -- who he'll portray in the streamer's upcoming biopic, Dolemite is My Name! -- and how Moore pitched him on a film of his life nearly two decades ago at a dingy comedy club. Moore also suggested they hit the road together, but Murphy was woefully unprepared at the time.

From there, Murphy pivots to the other big and small screen projects lining his calendar, including his return to Saturday Night Liveand a stand-up tour he's planning for next year. According to AVClub, it will be his first run since the tour that produced his iconic 1987 set, Raw. And it makes plenty of sense. The comedian hinted a possible stand-up tour in a recent episode of Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee. Already locked-in for a new special with the streaming giant, he's gonna need more than an opening monologue on SNL to warm up.

No dates have been announced just yet. But there's a pretty good chance he'll film the special at the cap of this run -- once the material's presumably crystallized -- and the dash for those stubs will be nothing short of a frenzy. Hold tight for details in the weeks and months ahead.
