The comedian surprised fans with a pair of impromptu sets after a grid failure pulled the plug on his Broadway residency.

Last night, concert and theater audiences up and down Broadway's Midtown stretch flooded the streets as a blackout crippled the west side of NYC.  Events all over the city were either evacuated or canceled outright, as the city scrambled to return power to a grip of affected traffic lights and subway lines. Tickets to any canceled shows will be honored on their rescheduled dates.

But when it came to Dave Chappelle, whose 12-night run at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theater was derailed by the blackout, the show obviously went on. According to BrooklynVegan, after rescheduling the evening's performance for Sunday, July 21st, Chappelle quickly announced a last-minute (and predictably phone-adverse) 1 am show at Gramercy Theater, where he hit the stage for the first of two surprise sets. He ended the night with his second Comedy Cellar appearance of the week, sharing the stage with Bill Burr and Wil Sylvince, while Judd Apatow looked on from the crowd.
