The acclaimed director helms and stars in a cryptocurrency ad campaign that emphasizes the historically exclusionary practices of traditional banking.
In a new ad spot for the DCM (digital currency machine) provider called “The Currency of Currency,” Lee crowns the crypto wave as a viable and restorative financial system for those historically excluded from traditional banking based on race, gender, and/or geography. Filmed just outside of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street last month, the ad rails against banking systems and underscores crypto’s ability to narrow the wealth gap by making investment accessible to all. “Old money is out. New money is in,” Lee says in the self-directed Coin Cloud spot, drawing an intellectual and generational line in the sand as War’s “Galaxy” bumps in the background. The commercial, which is currently set to run on Comedy Central, Adult Swim, Youtube, and Reddit, also stars Teyana Taylor, Shangela, and Pose‘s Mj Rodriguez.
Since it was founded in 2014, Coin Cloud has become the world’s largest DCM operator, allowing users to buy and sell more than 25 cryptocurrencies at any one of over 2,000 locations. “For me, this campaign is as much a prophecy as it is a look at where we’ve been.
