The Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Director Adam Blackstone Wants to Take the Performance on Tour

After winning the Outstanding Music Direction Emmy for directing the Super Bowl LVI halftime show, Adam Blackstone shared his post-performance hopes.

Multi-instrumentalist and music director Adam Blackstone wants to take the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show on the road after recently winning an Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction. Last Saturday (September 3), the performance headlined by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar – with special appearances from 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak – won three Emmys, including the aforementioned category along with Outstanding Variety Special (Live) and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special.

With three successes under Blackstone's belt, following the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, he told Variety that his vision for the performance was to hold “a great music show”.

“It wasn’t about Black or white. It wasn’t about hip-hop versus pop music,” he said. “I pride myself on making that a great music show that will continue to show the legacy of each of those artists.”

Blackstone added, “People can’t be mad at me saying, ‘You should have added that’. Mary could do 12 minutes by herself. So could Snoop and Dre. It was my job to curate a playlist, and you get your favorite artist for 90 seconds.”

Wanting the Halftime Show's celebration to continue, Blackstone said he was “calling out” performers during the 14-minute set to "take this on the road."

Prior to being the Halftime Show musical director, Blackstone conducted live shows for Nicki Minaj, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Eminem and more. Last week, Blackstone began his new residency “The Legacy Experience,” at new Sunset Strip music venue the Sun Rose.
