'The Batman 2' is Officially in the Works — Who Should the Villain Be?

During CinemaCon on Tuesday, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves will return for The Batman 2.

The Batman returns. After Robert Pattinson discussed plans for a The Batman trilogy with director Matt Reeves, on Tuesday, it was confirmed during CinemaCon that the actor is returning for The Batman 2. Since the film's March 4th release, according to Deadline, The Batman has grossed $760M worldwide and has been streamed in 4.1 million households during the first week of its HBO Max release.

When The Batman sequel was announced, Reeves also took the CinemaCon stage to greet attendees.

“Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”

While anticipation for The Batman sequel begins, fans weren't hesitant to opine about who should be the series' next villain. During the conclusion of The Batman, it appeared that Joker would be the next villain, but some viewers said that they've grown bored of the failed clown being overused in the series. One Twitter user even joked that The Flash actor Ezra Miller could play himself and face-off with Batman.

In February, Pattinson spoke with Fandingo about the potential of filming a The Batman trilogy with Reeves, saying that he'd play the caped crusader “as many times as people want to see it.”

“I’ve talked to Matt about the idea of doing a trilogy, and that would be wonderful. I really, really enjoyed the process and it’s such a fun character to play," Pattinson said.
