Swizz Beatz Thinks Missy's Catalog is Too Versatile For a Verzuz With Janet Jackson

Swizz Beatz recently clarified his comments about a matchup between Janet and Missy.

After Sunday night's Verzuz battle between Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland hopped on Instagram Live for their usual debriefing, and to discuss future matchups with fans of the series. Over the past few months, fans have clamored for Missy Elliott to get involved. Initially, she declined the offer, but time will tell. Swizz drew backlash when her name was brought up alongside Janet Jackson.

"Missy can be multiple people," Swizz said, referring to her songwriting catalog, as well as her own. "Janet just gonna be Janet." After his commensts drew the ire of Janet stans on Twitter, Swizz doubled down in the comment section of The Shade Room's Instagram profile.

"Let's be clear," he wrote. "I don't think Missy & Janet is a good match up at all! Much love to Janet she's ICON but I just didn't feel that was a good match up. Janet got hits on hits but she should have a better person to celebrate with that's all. Blessings."

The number of competitors for both artists is looking pretty slim as of late. After Brandy and Monica squared off weeks ago, Mary J. Blige said she wouldn't want to participate in the series.

"I saw it and I loved it," she said, on Bravo’s What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "But no, I don't wanna do a Verzuz. I don't. I'm cool."

Stay tuned for further updates regarding forthcoming Verzuz battle match ups. The Patti LaBelle-Gladys Knight Verzuz is available for streaming on Apple Music.
