This past weekend during a televised interview at Tokyo’s Gallery X by Parco, Otomo revealed that not only had he granted the streetwear giant his blessing for a collaborative collection, but that it could be arriving in the very near future. Akira is Otomo’s seminal work, a hand-drawn dystopian masterpiece centered on a mystical force that possesses an everyman and alters the course of human history. It is arguably the 20th century’s most influential piece of animation, near and dear to the hearts of modern-day creatives across all mediums, and was recently up for a live-action adaptation at the helm of Jordan Peele, who passed on the project due to schedule conflicts.

In other Supreme-related news, the company is slated to open a new location in Brooklyn this Thursday, October 5th, just down the street from Williamsburg’s Whole Foods and Apple Store. Which is to say, you should probably steer clear of Bedford and Grand in the coming days. No word on when that Akira collection will hit, but it could be any day now. Watch Otomo discuss the collaboration in the clip below.
