Lee's wife, Joan Lee, died in 2017 at the age of 95 from a stroke. He is survived by his daughter J.C.
"My father loved all of his fans. He was the greatest, most decent man," J.C. said to TMZ.
Celebrities have since taken to social media to respond to Lee's death including Questlove, Thundercat, Travis Scott, Ryan Reynolds and others.
"Stan the man," Quest captioned an Instagram photo showing a young Lee, while Tundercat took to Twitter to express his condolences to the iconic comic book editor and writer: "Man. My hero is dead. Rip Stan Lee."
Throughout last year and early 2018, Lee was frequently in the news for his declining health. In February of this year, he revealed his battle with pneumonia in a heartfelt video.
Lee first started Marvel Comics with Jack Kirby back in 1961. The pair, along with other collaborators like Steve Ditko, went on to create fictional superheroes including Spider-Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Black Panther, the X-Men, and others.
