Jay-Z’s former collaborator responded to Diddy’s recent speech at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Gala.

In recent years, dozens of Black artists like Drake and Jay-Z have spoken out regarding the Recording Academy’s oversight of Black art. On Saturday, Diddy spoke about the trend during his acceptance speech for the Clive Davis Icon Award.

“Truth be told, hip-hop has never been respected by the Grammys,” Diddy said. “Black music has never been respected by the Grammys to the point that it should be. For years, we’ve allowed institutions that have never had our best interests at heart to judge us. And that stops right now.”

“Money is not my master,” he tweeted. “Fame and celebrity don’t matter. Treating people with respect and doing things the right way is all I’m concerned with. Some people will try to use their status and oppress others. Especially their own kind!”
