The cast of Soul is already stacked.
With all of the Marvel showboating at this weekend’s D23 Expo, the fact that Pixar is finally releasing a film with a black lead may have slipped under the radar. Nevertheless, Soul, an upcoming animated feature about a school teacher (heaven) bent on playing The Blue Note in this life or the next, is officially a go.
At Pixar’s D23 presentation, the animation studio revealed the first voices to sign on to the film’s cast. According to Shadow + Act, the film will star Jamie Foxx, Questlove, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, and Daveed Diggs, while Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste handle the film’s score. Soul will be directed by Pixar vet, Pete Docter, of Up and Inside Out.
