In a statement, Martin expressed his love for the city his iconic show was filmed in.
On Tuesday, Martin Lawrence and the Detroit Pistons announced an official Martin-themed merchandise line in honor of the city his eponymous TV series was set in. The collection will be available for purchase on Friday, May 14th exclusively on the Pistons’ online shop.
“Detroit has always shown me so much love and always shows up for me,” Martin said in a statement. “From stand-up tours to fans on the street Detroit has felt like home. It’s an honor to be part of something that means so much to me to this many years later.”
The collection includes commemorative jerseys, hats, shorts, sweatshirts, T-shirts, and more. The apparel prominently features the show’s title card’s design, fan favorite lines, and memorable scenes from the show.
“With the city of Detroit as the show’s backdrop, Martin became must-watch TV in the 90’s,” said Mike Zavodsky, Chief Business Officer of the Detroit Pistons. “Martin’s love for the Pistons in the show translated into passion for the team – the fact that he has a ring from the 2004 team is proof of that. We’re thrilled to partner with Martin to introduce a merchandise line that pays homage to both Martin and the show’s Detroit roots.”
In January 2020, on the heels of the release of Bad Boys For Life, Sony announced that Lawrence and Will Smith will return for a fourth chapter of their cult favorite buddy cop saga. Stay tuned for further updates on the project.
