In an interview with ScreenRant, King of the Hill voice actor Stephen Root said the upcoming reboot will have a time jump.
Bobby Hill won't be a 13-year-old on the upcoming King of the Hill reboot. In an interview with ScreenRant, Stephen Root (who voiced KOH characters like Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland) shared that the Hulu revival will show Bobby Hill, amongst others, as an older character. The Paint star also shared that the cast, composed of series co-creator Mike Judge (Hank, Boomhauer), Kathy Najimy (Peggy), Pamela Adlon (Bobby) and more have returned for table reads.
"I think we're going to time jump in [King of the Hill] a little bit so that Bobby's going to be older, and it's going to be interesting," Root told ScreenRant.
Actress Brittany Murphy, who voiced character Luanne, died in 2009 before the original show's finale the following year. A new voice actor for Luanne has not been cast KOH producers have not shared if the character will return. In an April interview with Collider, KOH co-creator Greg Daniels revealed that the reboot will have a 15-year time jump, making Bobby 28 and affecting all the returning characters.
Although the new KOH does not have an official release date, Hulu Streaming Originals president Craig Erwich shared his enthusiasm for the revival. “We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy, and Bobby, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and continue the conversations we began years ago," Erwich said in a statement.
The original series ran on Fox for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2010, and earned two Emmy Awards. Along with KOH, Judge premiered the season of Beavis and Butt-Head on Paramount+ last month. The final two episodes of the season, "Hellhole" and "Take A Bow," will release on Thursday, May 4.
