Janelle Monáe to Co-Star in Upcoming Gloria Steinem Biopic

The big screen roles are piling up for the Wondaland queen

Janelle Monáe is quickly becoming one Hollywood's most coveted on-screen talents. After starring in Berry Jenkins' Oscar-winning Moonlight and Theodore Melfi's Hidden Figures, the casting calls have remained steady.

And according to Dazed, Monáe's landed another role on her ever-expanding IMDB page. Monae will star as Ms. Magazine co-founder, Dorothy Pitman Hughes, in an upcoming Gloria Steinem biopic film. Based on Steinem's seminal memoir, My Life on the Road, the film will chronicle the civil rights icon's rise to forefront of the women's rights movement. Though no date has been set for its release just yet, Steinem and Amy Richards are set to executive produce the film, initially announced in 2017.

Monáe's forthcoming acting credits are formidable, starring alongside Steve Carrel in Welcome to Marwen (out this Christmas,) the Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet, and is set to lend her voice to a live-action reboot of Disney's Lady and The Tramp. Her latest album, Dirty Computer, is nominated for Album of The Year at the 2019 Grammys.
