Boomerang is a classic
A couple of months ago, it was revealed that BET will be rebooting Boomerang, one of the most iconic Eddie Murphy comedies of the ’90s.
Turns out that isn’t entirely true.
BET is producing a sequel to the comedy, turning the movie into a TV show.
On Monday, September 24th, it was announced that Halle Berry and Lena Waithe will executive produce the series. This is really cool because Berry was one of the stars of the 1992 classic.
According to Deadline, the show will be about the children of the main stars.
Speaking about the show, Waithe said:
There’s no point in trying to remake a classic…It can’t be done. So we want to create something fresh that speaks to a new generation. We hope people will come to the show with an open mind and ready to embrace the new world we’ve created!
Waithe will co-write the pilot with help from Ben Cory Jones.
Berry also released a statement about the show:
I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trailblazer in her own right…I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.
Halle Berry also put a post up on her Instagram:
The show will make its debate in 2019.
