Flying Lotus Preps ‘Ash’ Film Starring Tessa Thompson

Upcoming Flying Lotus-directed and composed sci-fi thriller Ash will star Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

For his next trick, musician, producer and creative polymath Flying Lotus will direct sci-fi thriller Ash starring Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Announced earlier this year, the film follows an astronaut (Thompson) who awakes on a distant planet and discovers that her crew has been murdered. Once another astronaut rescues her (Gordon-Levitt), the two begin to retrace the horrifying events, leading them to contemplate whether they can trust each other.

With Lotus, whose real name is Steven Ellison, set to direct and compose the film’s original score, executive producers on Ash are “District 9” writer-director Neill Blomkamp and media company Echo Lake Entertainment. The film follows Ellison’s 2017 body horror flick Kuso. Production for Ash is set to begin in New Zealand next year. Ellison released his last album Flamagra in 2019.

“It’s an absolute dream come true to collaborate with some of the most talented actors out there!,” said Flying Lotus, per Deadline.

Tessa Thompson last starred in Thor: Love and Thunder along with HBO’s Westworld, where she’s played character he has played Charlotte Hale since 2016. Thompson will next star in Michael B. Jordan-directed Creed III, which has been delayed for a March 3, 2023 release.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt portrayed Uber founder Travis Kalanick on Showtime drama series Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber. Next, Gordon-Levitt is set to play Jiminy Cricket in Robert Zemeckis-directed Disney musical fantasy Pinocchio and appear in comedy film Providence with Lily James and Himesh Patel.
