"The Best Spider-Man Movie to Date:" Here's the First Reactions to "Spider-Man: No Way Home"

Spider-Man: No Way Home made its world premiere in Los Angeles yesterday night. Critics and moviegoers gave their early reactions to the newest MCU film.

With the media embargo fully lifted for Spider-Man: No Way Home, reviews for the 27th MCU film have swung into action. The film made its premiere in Los Angeles last night at Fox Village Theater with appearances by the multiverse of cast members including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict CumberbatchJamie FoxxWillem Dafoe, Alfred Molina and Marisa Tomei.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, longtime fans of the film series are reintroduced to Spider-Man's supervillains of alternate realities after Dr. Strange pulls a magic spell that goes wrong.  Although Spider-Man's identity is concealed again, the multiverse breaks open as he faces off with the likes of Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Lizard and Sandman.

With high anticipation for the Jon Watts-directed film since the trailer debuted in November, critics and viewers rounded up their takes on Spider-Man: No Way Home, which many consider the best Spider-Man film yet.

"Holland has built a legacy that will long linger in the Spider-Man firmament; better he should place it on the mantle now than wear out his welcome. The odds of that actually happening are, of course, slim to none," said Vanity Fair journalist Richard Lawson.

"Easily a film you'll want to watch again, No Way Home is a ride I never wanted to end. It's a marvel that something this ambitious came together," said Insider reporter Kirsten Acuna. In a three star review, Brian Tallerico said:

"Director Jon Watts and his team have delivered a true event movie, a double-sized crossover issue of a comic book that the young me would have waited in line to read first, excitedly turning every page with breathless anticipation of the next twist and turn."

While the most of the reviews were positive, there were some criticisms. A.A. Dowd, from AVClub, mentioned how there was a lot happening, writing: "The tone veers all over the map, turning the supervillains into quippy frenemies one minute, plunging Peter into narrative and meteorological darkness the next." While Danielle Broadway, from Black Girl Nerd, was critical of the lack of character development, writing, "the film just didn’t swing high enough."
