Warner Bros. Reportedly Wants Donald Glover For New Willy Wonka Film
Warner Bros. is making its own Willy Wonka film and apparently, the entertainment company wants Donald Glover for the titular role.
Glover, Ryan Gosling, and Ezra Miller are on a shortlist for potential actors to portray the eccentric character, according to a report from Collider. As the website notes, Warner Bros. already has a relationship with Gosling and Miller. The studio worked with the former on Blade Runner 2049, Crazy, Stupid Love, The Nice Guys and Gangster Squad, while the latter is a part of the studio’s Fantastic Beasts franchise and plays The Flash in the DC movie universe.
Although Glover doesn’t have the same ties to Warner Bros. as Gosling and Miller, he’d still be a worthy pick considering his work on Atlanta as well as portraying a young Lando Calrissian in the recently-released Solo film.
The Willy Wonka film is rumored to be a prequel that will explore Wonka’s origin story. It will be directed by Paul King (Paddington), produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter), and written by Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman).
