'Yo! MTV Raps' Host Doctor Dre Asking for Help After Leg Amputation

Doctor Dre is suffering from complications from Type II diabetes.

Last year, Yo! MTV Raps co-host Andre "Doctor Dre" Brown discussed his forthcoming book with ABC's Here and Now. In the interview, Dre revealed that he'd lost most of his vision due to complications from Type II diabetes. Dre has been publicly speaking about his illness since 2016. Recently, his condition worsened after a fall in his home this Memorial Day weekend left him with an injured ankle.

The injury required surgery and hospitalization, and as a result of complications, his right leg was amputated up to the knee. Dre was fitted with a prosthetic, but his home cannot realistically accommodate someone with such issues. Thus, his family and friends, otherwise known as Team Dre, have launched a GoFundMe to buy a more accessible house for Dre, with no stairs, and ramps and wide-access doors for a wheelchair.

Find more information about Doctor Dre's efforts on his Instagram page. Currently, Dre is living at a rehabilitation center.

"All of us who lived through the Nineties and care about music know and love Andre 'Doctor Dre' Brown," the campaign reads, listing his many accomplishments. "Given all of Dre's high-profile achievements, you might imagine that he had all the money he needs to pay for his care, but diabetes cut short his career nearly 15 years ago."

Dre's insurance stopped paying for his rehabilitation on July 20. When he returns home, he'll need physical and occupational therapy, neither of which will be fully covered by insurance.
