The duo will be honored for their dedication to shedding light on pop culture, political figures and more.

Daniel Baker and Joel Martinez, the pair known as Desus and Mero will be honored by the Bronx Museum during this year’s Visionary Duos Gala.

According to Variety, the hosts of the late-night talk show Desus & Mero are set to be included as a part of the gala that recognizes those from the borough who have made contributions in the realm of social justice, art and education.

The duo’s ability to make pop culture, current events and political figures digestible has been the most noticeable part of their impact. They rose to popularity from their podcast Desus vs. Mero that originally launched in 2013, it turned into a web show in 2014.

Bodega Boys, their other podcast followed in 2015, it’s still airing, the show of the same name previously aired on Viceland. This opportunity led to their Showtime series launch in February 2019. In the past, Baker and Martinez have interviewed Bernie Sanders, fellow Bronx native Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chris Hayes, Gayle King and Seth Rogen.

Additional honorees at the gala include the couple documentarian Henry Chalfant and Tony-winning actor Kathleen Chalfant, artist Diana Al-Hadid and architect Jon Lott. Congressman José E. Serrano and New York State Senator José M. Serrano will also be honored.

The Visionary Duos Gala will be hosted by Larry Ossei-Mensah and is set to feature performances by Maluca and Young Paris on March 2 at Manhattan’s Capitale.
