Dave Chappelle Reportedly Asked Elon Musk To Unban Talib Kweli From Twitter At SF Show

After getting banned from Twitter in 2020, Talib Kweli could make a return to the social media platform thanks to Dave Chappelle.

After getting mercilessly booed during his surprise appearance at Dave Chappelle's show in San Francisco this past Sunday night, Elon Musk had to deal with yet another awkward situation that happened toward the end of the event — agreeing to bring back Talib Kweli to Twitter.

According to SFGATE, Chappelle asked Musk if he could unban Kweli from the social media platform, with reporter Gabe Lehman writing, "Kweli was standing five feet away from Musk during the request so the Twitter CEO didn’t have much choice but to agree."

Kweli was banned from Twitter in 2020 for "repeated violations of the Twitter rules," according to a report from Jezebel.

"Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation. Violence, harassment and other similar types of behavior discourage people from expressing themselves, and ultimately diminish the value of global public conversation," the social media platform added. "Our rules are to ensure all people can participate in the public conversation freely and safely."

Kweli's banning came amid his harassment of Maya Moody, who was targeted by the rapper because of a tweet she made in a larger discussion happening with rappers and who they were married to, with Kweli one of the rappers named. Amid the back-and-forth, Moody shared a statement where she said she had been threatened with human trafficking, as well as pictures of her parents and their personal information being shared online, by "a paid employee of Kweli" who "provides [him] with the usernames of those he wants targeted and harassed."

"I am not the first or only victim of this behavior from Talib Kweli. He has harassed whoever has come to my aid, and his bots have attempted to leak IP addresses, stalk and harass other people’s families…He has made slanderous, derogatory videos about me, encouraging his bots and followers to persist," she said in the statement.

It's unknown if Musk will actually unban Kweli from Twitter, although he's been known to bring people back to the platform. As Mashable reported, he's primarily reinstated right-wing figures who were previously suspended, including Donald Trump,  Jordan Peterson, and others.
