Chicagoist relaunches with a little help from its new owner

Chance The Rapper has released an insightful (and hilarious) exposition of Chicago's broken alderman system.

In the 15-minute clip, the rapper-turned-actor-turned-publisher portrays Polyester-clad journalist Champ Bennet,  interviewing pedestrians, actual journalists, and aspiring alderman running in the upcoming election to replace the aged-out-of-representation sitting politcians.

His findings reveal just how crucial the aldermanic system is, the obstacles to challenging it, and just how poorly-informed the general public is regarding the system of local ward governance. Most residents interviewed don't even know how many wards comprise the city (50.) The clip also stars Hannibal Buress as a blonded 75-year-old sitting alderman whose general approach to signing bills is "just say yes." Watch it below.

The piece effectively relaunches Chicagoist, turning over to Chance's management as the publication's new owner. He's also pledged his support for Amara Enyia, the democratic candidate running for the city's mayoral seat. All of the media and political positioning hasn't kept him of the mic, though. Earlier this week, Chance released a pair of new singles, his 5th and 6th loosies of the year.

Chicago, vote for your next representatives on February 26th, 2019.
