Tony Todd, the actor who portrayed the titular horror movie icon, told website TooFab "it's about time" for a remake of Candyman and is fine with Jordan Peele producing it.
"[It's] strongly rumored and I know Jordan is a fan of the character and moi, which is wonderful to hear and I'm a fan of his," Todd said. "...if the fans want it, you gotta give the people what they want."
"As long as it's done well, and Jordan is an intelligent screenwriter. I know he would probably do his very best," Todd added. "It's an iconic character that has withstood the test of time."
The actor, who stars in the upcoming horror film Hell Fest, also said that he wouldn't mind appearing in the new movie.
"I'm sure if it's done, they'll find a way to feed me," he joked. "I'll do more than pop up."
Peele is reportedly in talks to remake Candyman through Monkeypaw Productions. The Key & Peele star would serve as a producer for the remake (it's unknown if he would direct it too). If Peele actually ends up remaking the movie it probably wouldn't be released anytime soon. He's currently filming Us, a social thriller, while Moneypaw is handling a handful of other projects including a remake of The Twilight Zone, The Hunt and Lovecraft Country.
