Boots Riley, Director/Writer/Composer,

The brain behind Sorry To Bother You is readying his sophomore picture.

Boots Riley is heading back to the big screen. The Oakland polyglot stirred up Hollywood last summer with his surreal anti-capitalist directorial debut, Sorry To Bother You. And it doesn’t appear he’ll be letting up anytime soon.

According to The Wrap, Annapurna Pictures (the studio behind If Beale Street Could TalkVice, and Detroit) announced that they’d signed Riley to a blind script deal for his next film project in a recent press release that detailed its executive shuffle. No details on the project have been revealed by the studio or the director.

Earlier this week, Riley revealed that despite virtually unanimous praise for the film, he never actually ran a campaign for this year’s Oscars consideration, and naturally, wasn’t surprised by the nomination snub. On Twitter, the director explained, “We didn’t buy For Your Consideration ads in the trade magazines and we didn’t service the whole academy with screeners,” adding ” So I had no actual belief that we would get nominated.” Sorry To Bother You was released on July 6th, featuring a score by Tune-Yards, along with an original soundtrack by Riley and The Coup. It’s available to purchase on iTunes today.

Stay tuned for updates on Riley’s next project in the months ahead.
