Adult Swim Permanently Bans One Of The Best Uncle Ruckus 'Boondocks' Episodes

We'll give you a hint: the episode is from the third season of The Boondocks.

Adult Swim has banned an episode of The Boondocks from being streamed.

In a report from The Daily Beast, a representative from Adult Swim confirmed that "The Story of Jimmy Rebel," an episode from the third season of The Boondocks, has been "permanently retired due to cultural sensitivities."

"When Adult Swim transitions series to a new platform we determine what episodes are selected through creative and cultural filters and our standards and practices policies," the representative told the publication. "Oftentimes these decisions are made in collaboration with the show's creators."

There is no planned date for the episode's return to streaming. It is currently unavailable to stream on HBO Max, as well as the Adult Swim website. The Daily Beast's report came about after a Reddit thread made several months ago noticed that certain episodes from the series weren't available on the streaming service.

"The Story of Jimmy Rebel" was the fourth episode of The Boondocks' third season, and was centered around Uncle Ruckus meeting his favorite music artist Jimmy Rebel, a racist white country singer. The hilariously bizarre episode results in Rebel taking a liking to Ruckus' music (believing Ruckus to be a white man) and wanting to make an album with him despite discovering that Ruckus is Black.

The original Boondocks series returned to streaming via HBO Max back in May. As for the new Boondocks series that’s also supposed to pop up on HBO Max, that won’t be dropping until fall of this year. The two-season, 24-episode show ihas been described as a re-imagining of the original series. Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder said the following about the new series last year: “There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks and do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”
