Ryan Coogler Reveals He Originally Wanted this Villain to Appear in 'Black Panther'
Imagine what Black Panther would have been with even more villains
After years of anticipation, Black Panther week is here. The movie officially comes out on Friday, February 16th (even though a bunch of people have seen it already.)
There’s going to be a bunch of conversation about the film. And there’s already an interesting what-if floating around.
In a new interview with Yahoo! Ryan Coogler talked about envisioning another infamous villain in Black Panther. The main villain right now is Erik Killmonger, who is played by Michael B. Jordan. But the director wanted to add Kraven the Hunter, a famous Spider-man foe, as a villain in the movie.
“Being a Marvel fan, you want to grab all the characters. You realize there’s contractual things. You don’t have that character. There was a Christopher Priest run that was pretty heavy, there’s a big scene where Panther’s fighting Kraven, Kraven the Hunter.”
“I’ve always loved Kraven the Hunter in almost every iteration. So there was a moment – ‘Can I grab Kraven?’ – and they were ‘Nah, you don’t have Kraven.’ He was one where I thought ‘Oh, man.’ But I don’t even know if he would have worked in the movie we ended up with, this was the early days.”
Kraven has never been in a Spider-man movie, so we get it. It means he’ll pop up in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, or whatever.
