According to The New York Times, the elder statesman of gaming has announced the first of eight new video game-themed hotels for the US is coming to Phoenix, AZ by 2022, with plans to open gamer-friendly lodging in Las Vegas, Austin, Chicago, Seatle, San Francisco, San Jose, and Denver, as well. Each hotel will be fit with standard accommodations; restaurants, bars, gyms, and rooms with motifs presumably styled after different titles from its catalog. But they'll also feature dedicated rooms for gamers to plug in and tune out, attempting to meet the growing demand for e-sports venues across the globe.

The hotels are being developed in partnership with GSD Group and Napoleon Smith III, a producer on the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. In a press release, GSD Group CEO, Shelly Murphy, says "Atari Hotels will be the first of their kind in the U.S., offering gamers of all ages the ultimate in immersive entertainment and in every aspect of gaming. We’re excited to be working on this project with such great partners and to bring a big win to Arizona." Construction on the Phoenix location is set to break ground later this year.
