This instance came about in the aftermath of Common and Ice Cube’s on-wax back-and-forth over 30 years ago.

Over the last few years, Fat Joe has gained a reputation for telling tall tales that are seemingly too… well, too tall to be believable. But, he is a legend, and even if you think he’s usually cappin’, you’ll have no choice but to give him props for a recently disclosed act of hood heroism — a story that comes from Common instead of Joey Crack himself.

In a new episode of Joe and Jadakiss’ new podcast, Joe and Jada, Common recalls a moment when Fat Joe came to his rescue during a California trip to shoot a commercial. While Common’s beef with Ice Cube and his Westside Connection groupmate, Mack 10, had already been squashed, Com’s unnamed friend still had issues with the West Coast clique, and that led to some problems.

"I was out on the West Coast with my guy, one of my guys I knew through one of my close homies, but he was my guy and he just wasn't happy with the whole situation — the whole Ice Cube, Mack 10 beef that we had,” Common explained. But according to him, Joey Crack stepped in to prevent anything bad from happening.

For his part, Joe made it clear that he stepped in because of their friendship, rather than anything to do with his toughness. This marks the second time Com’s mentioned this particular tale. In a previous recounting, he gave some details about Joe’s timely message about impending disaster. "Your man gotta go. He gotta leave. He can't stay," Comm remembered Joe saying.

Watch Common’s breakdown for yourself just below. This particular tale comes in at around the five-minute mark.
