Ahead of next Friday's release of his sophomore album, Love's Last Chance,Taylor McFerrin has shared his latest single.
Premiering today, "Love and Distance" is a tender and warbled gap-closer rooted in the emotional (and literal) mileage of a road warrior's marathoning and the strain a relationship can endure between pin-drops. Sonically, the track falls somewhere square between Kool & The Gang's astral-plaining "Summer Madness" and the half-muted heartbreak of Slum Village's "Fall in Love," as McFerrin washes a mid-tempo strut with warm and wah-ed clavichords and a cool, almost dispassionate, confidence.

Via email, McFerrin explained "The days leading up to leaving on a big tour are always strange because you never want to leave on shaky ground. That feeling will linger the entire time you are away. I wrote this song from the perspective of being in those last days, trying to do and say everything perfectly. You want to come home with the vibes still lovely."
