After the song was released, Pharrell sat down with Zane Lowe to talk about the track. During the interview, Pharrell revealed that Frank Ocean wrote the intro for the song. Pharrell threw praise on Frank, saying:

“He is the art of no compromise, no concession, and very colorful with it…And that’s what, I feel like, that’s what is very interesting about his journey. Because if you understand him then, you know anything that he’s ever done is just what he’s really, really, really felt.”

During the interview, Pharrell also revealed that the song was created after the footage of the Keith Scott police shooting was released. The chorus features Pharrell saying “don’t do it” which mirrors what Scott’s wife Rakeyia Scott was yelling in the video.
