Declaime - Young Spirit

Declaime sends a kite to the historically marginalized and oppressed people of the United States on his latest release entitled Young Spirit. Georgia Anne Muldrow and Madlib are behind the boards for the duration of the project. Declaime is in fighting shape across nineteen tracks, which feature appearances from Aloe Blacc, Romes, Blu and Saul Williams.

The influential underground West Coast hip hop/funk maverick, Declaime (aka Dudley Perkins), releases his poignant new album Young Spirit. Produced by his wife and music partner Georgia Anne Muldrow, and longtime friend and collaborator Madlib, Young Spirit balances Declaime's unique rapping delivery over psychedelic funk and otherworldly soundscapes. With the help from guest vocalists such as Saul Williams, Aloe Blacc, Blu, and more, the album serves as Declaime's uplifting message to young oppressed people of color in America, covering topics from police brutality, to black love, and more.

Houston rapper Anti-Lilly tackles depression, temptation and betrayal on Its Nice Outside, produced entirely by Phoniks. The 17-track release encapsulates the highs and lows of his personal struggle and features appearances from LC, Awon, Scolla, Mariel, Devante Hunter and Jon S.

“Thank y'all. This is the only way I know how to get through it. I lost my way for a while, honestly I'm still tryna figure everything out. I’m learning that we all are, though. I done lost as much as I gained, but it was all necessary. This album is dedicated to everyone who feels like me. Thanks for being so patient with me. God Bless” - Anti-Lilly

Zach Witness - Electric Revival

Dallas producer Zach Witness takes on inaction and the action necessary to encourage revolution with the Electric Revival: Rise of an Outkast Nation project. The release spawned by a studio session with Erykah Badu and Andre 3000 pulls inspiration from Outkast’s catalog and seeks to shed light.

”Electric Revival takes on the stories of the lives entangled around society's most crippling and hopeless of situations. The social and political intentions of the EP paints a very defined purpose in this context. Zach Witness adds further color on the doorways this EP opens in the social hemispheres of culture: "There was a Chilean dictator named Augusto Pinochet who in the 1970’s silenced, exiled, and/ or killed artists and activists that spoke out against him. Instead of simply using military force to gain control, he was very smart in that he directly targeted those who influenced culture, ceasing any unwanted change upon it. Yet this only made Chilean people stronger. In the same way grass grows back denser every time it’s set on fire, an outcasted people will become stronger with each struggle. Society is like a river. When you go with it’s current, your perspective is only that which is in front of you. But when you opt out and decide to sit upon its bank instead, you see the river in its entirety, thus having the ability to affect the way it flows and functions. Electric Revival is both a reminder and a motivator to those who sit upon societies river banks. It’s the marginalized who hold the key to real change."

AfroDJiak - Sound Traveler Series #24

Jetsetting selector AfroDJiak takes the reigns for the latest in the Sound Traveler Series from Recordbreakin Music. The 24th episode features remixes, edits and original tracks from Soia, ERIMAJ, Anderson Paak and more.

I’ve been traveling and I’ve been inspired. I’ve been inspired by the sounds that move us, literally. I’m curious about how music assists our daily functions. What do you listen to while you work? What do you listen to while you work out? Make love? Draw? Cook? And what can you hear that interrupts that activity and causes you to actively tweak your aural senses? I am hoping this mix does that. I hope it is like the movie you watch and love the first time; then watch again only to find yourself stopping to notice finer details you may have missed the first time around. I’m hoping it becomes the soundtrack to a few of your daily tasks. I’m hoping it is rediscovered again and again. Much respect to you & to Record Breakin’.
