Merna- "Better Run" (Audio)

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Merna is a songstress out of Toronto with Middle Eastern roots making waves in the highly complicated "urban contemporary" landscape with the release of her single "Better Run." Formerly known as Ayah, Merna claims to have taken the life of her prior moniker, reinventing her music, image and overall persona. The newly birthed Merna, is an aggressive, swaggered and outwardly more ferocious incarnation of her artistry, signifying a new day for the young songwriter. With its strident drums, fuzzed-out guitar and contentious vocals, "Better Run" plays perfectly into the newly assembled tonality of the fierce young singer.

The combative flavor of Merna's new sound comes through an endless path of reinvention and relocation. Born in Jordan but raised throughout the Middle East, U.S and Toronto, the vocalist got noticed on Myspace of all places, by the one and only legend of the ones and twos, DJ Jazzy Jeff. As the relationship between the two blossomed, their studio sessions began releasing a sustained torrent of material, fully documented in years past. With a new aesthetic and redefined inflection, Merna is coming up in a big way, and we're all excited to see what will come next out of the talented and matured songster. Listen to her single "Better Run" below.
