While we sit and wait patiently for litigation to determine the precise moment we’ll be able to stream Prince‘s catalog the good ol’ millennial way, a former collaborator has offered a pristine (and very funky) glimpse at one of the icon’s last studio recordings.
Recorded in January of 2016 at his Minnesota compound, “RUFF ENUFF” finds The Purple One in step with bass gawd, MonoNeon, as well as Kirk Johnson and Adrian Crutchfield. A new band for a whole new groove. Well, a kinda new groove. Paisley patrons will hear shades of “Scarlet Pussy” and simmering “Erotic City” notes floating around in this honeypot of instrumental funk. P mans the six-string and keys, no flash, no bells, no whistles. Just a steamy little morsel to keep your mind rattling with what could have been scenarios.
The track was previously released as a TIDAL-exclusive “Purple Pick of The Week,” but can now be heard sans subscription in the player below. Hopefully this holds you over while the lawyers do their work. We’ll be sure to let you know when the full Prince catalog lands on your streaming service of preference.
